Everything we do is meant to communicate. Classes share knowledge between guide and learner. Applications help organizations interface with users. Advertising and media help products and services connect to purchasers.
It's all communication.
And to communicate effectively, the designer must know how to translate information from Subject Matter Expert (SME) to end user. The end user may be a student, an employee, or a potential consumer. The designer's job is to know what motivates the end user, communicate with the SME, and help translate a message. This is why research skills are crucial.
I am a researcher who helps SMEs communicate with their end users.
